The Silence of God

The silence of God is deafening
My ears are bleeding
Teeth chattering
Sanity receding
Mind battering
Down the walls of this ancient city

Be not far
Stretched out my arm
But as near as a distant star were your scars
I can’t reach them to place my finger in the holes

I can’t take it
Tried to fake it
Remake it
Defaced my humanity humming the melody of insanity
Sinning through divine profanity
God won’t make a man of me
Yet
Set your hand on me

Martyrs bleed
Their blood provides a nice warm shower
Running water
AC hotter
Holy slaughter
Religious fodder
I eat like a pig!

I’m triggered
Hinder me
Abuse the Church
Cleared internet search
God walks in, our stomachs lurch
O Church, where have you been?
Who can tally, who counts sin?
Who can wash your sheets again?

This has to end.
It has to change
We cannot simply rearrange
Holy Spirit turn the page!

How did you let this happen?!
We’re trying to absorb an ocean with a napkin
Is Christ in the pews if no fruit’s on the trees?
He seizes the ax

Wait!

Father, come retrieve your orphan daughter!
Save her from the slaughter
Brought upon her by her own two hands

Revive your Church
Renew your plans

Raise up a generation that will rid the Church of segregation
Rip from us our idols
Piles and piles
Of idols

I can see now

The scars in Your hands are the bullet holes in the man I used to call my enemy.

Luxury means we don’t have to see
The starving rib cage of the refugee
Who looks at me, with eyes replete
And whispers, “I am Christ.”

God is not silent,
We have stuffed our ears.
